 WE'RE GONNA DIE

DC Premiere

by YOUNG JEAN LEE

directed by JOSH SOBEL

Flying V Theatre
May 2019

Mortality may be the thing that binds us all together, but why be morbid when we can party instead? Join Flying V as we bring celebrated playwright Young Jean Lee’s look at living life with death on the horizon to the stage! Flying V Company Member and fan favorite Farrell Parker fronts a live band in this mash-up performance that combines elements of a storytelling session, existential stand up routine, and rock concert to explore real-life experiences of facing down our inevitable demise.

NOMINEE: Best Music Direction, Helen Hayes Awards 2020

"‘We’re Gonna Die’ makes you feel okay about it... The production is directed by Josh Sobel, who made a bit of a hit of it in Chicago... uplifting, and the title tune’s unexpectedly galvanizing refrain will lodge in your ear."

     -Washington Post

"When Farrell Parker steps out onto the black box stage at The Writer’s Center in Flying V’s version of We’re Gonna Die, something explodes... a celebration of life... Much of the power of this Flying V production flows from the direction of Josh Sobel... I left the theater with tears in my eyes, and gratitude, toward everyone involved in this production, for bringing it alive."

     -DC Metro Theater Arts

"Easily one of the most hilarious, harrowing, and exhilarating experiences I’ve ever had in a Washington theater... profoundly moving... [my] guest made the bold pronouncement that Flying V’s production is better than the Joe’s Pub version... The term “catharsis” gets tossed around a lot when it comes to art, but I can honestly say that I’ve never stood in front of a painting and felt so ripped open and then put back together again as when leaving We’re Gonna Die. I not only would enthusiastically attend this show again, but I’d want to bring everyone I know with me—and that’s about the best compliment as I can pay Parker, Sobel, and the entire Flying V team."

     -DC Theatre Scene

"An Instant Rock Cult Classic... Director Josh Sobel, fresh off a successful production of this show at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre, has brought DC audiences a taste of a somewhat idiosyncratic but incredibly daring young artist, who doesn't hesitate to absorb some of life's greatest challenges and come out swinging. And Parker is just the talent you need to pull off such a challenging one-person show."
